Naira Marley Demands Safety Assurance Before Submitting to Investigation in Mohbad’s Death

In a recent development surrounding the tragic death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, Nigerian rapper Naira Marley has expressed his willingness to cooperate with authorities investigating the case. However, he has requested that his safety be guaranteed by the security agencies before he turns himself in.
The controversy began when allegations emerged linking Naira Marley to the death of his former signee, Mohbad. It was claimed that the rapper had sponsored hoodlums to bully and threaten Mohbad after he controversially exited his record label, Marlian Music, in 2022. These allegations prompted calls for Naira Marley to be investigated.

During an interview with renowned author and activist Reno Omokri, Naira Marley clarified his stance on the matter. He revealed that he had been out of the country since August 31, 2023, and only learned about Mohbad’s death through social media. Expressing shock and disbelief, Naira Marley emphasized that he had no involvement in the tragic incident.
Addressing the accusations, Naira Marley stated, “If you’re blaming me, how did I kill him? I have nothing to do with his death or whatsoever. I was so hurt when I heard that. I’ve nothing whatsoever to do with his death.” He further explained that Mohbad had left Marlian Music in 2022 and had been working with a PR firm since then, dispelling rumors that he had hindered Mohbad’s career.
Despite his willingness to cooperate, Naira Marley expressed concerns about his safety. He asserted that he would only return to Nigeria to answer questions if the police could guarantee his protection. Denying any involvement with cults, he stated, “I don’t belong to any cult. I don’t know what a cult is. I have been running away from all these people. I’m actually anti-cult.”
The police have launched an investigation into Mohbad’s demise, and the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has invited the Department of State Services (DSS) to join the investigation. The involvement of the DSS highlights the seriousness of the case and underscores the need for a thorough and impartial inquiry.

It is also essential for the public to refrain from jumping to conclusions and spreading baseless rumors, as this can hinder the progress of the investigation and tarnish the reputation of innocent individuals.

Indonesia Receives Almost 200 Rohingya Refugees, Reports Local Official

The largest group of Rohingya refugees to arrive in Indonesia’s westernmost region in months, approximately 200 people, including women and children, did so on Tuesday. The Rohingya, a marginalized ethnic group from Myanmar, frequently embark on risky maritime expeditions, enduring protracted and costly voyages in delicate vessels in an attempt to reach Malaysia or Indonesia.
Local navy commander Andi Susanto claimed that the 196 refugees landed in the Pidie region of Aceh Province, in a remote place.
Some of the evacuees left right away after arriving inland; accounts vary as to how many of the ten or seven who made their way to the neighboring hills sought safety. A representative for the local fishing community, Marfian, surmised that these people might have been middlemen who brought refugees to the area on purpose.
Residents and local authorities helped the refugees by bringing food and drink to those who were left stranded on the shore.
Images sent to AFP showed exhausted refugees—including mothers holding small children—waiting for assistance on the shore. With around 200 Rohingya reported dead or missing during such treacherous sea crossings last year, the UN refugee agency predicts that over 2,000 Rohingya have tried the dangerous trek to Southeast Asian countries in 2022.
There is a pattern to the Rohingya migrants traveling by water to Indonesia, which is followed in this episode. 184 Rohingya refugees were forced to swim ashore after being abandoned at sea before arriving in the town of Peureulak in eastern Aceh in March. The difficulties and dangers Rohingya refugees encounter on their journey to safety and a better life in Southeast Asia are brought to light by their continuous arrival.
